I’ve been down in Florida for the past few weeks, spending time with my parents. The joy of my job is that I can work from anywhere. You may or may not know, but I journal a lot. Here are a few of the highlights from the last few weeks.
Wednesday, March 23rd.
I was woken up at 4 am by my phone buzzing like there was an Amber alert. My first thought was that a resident of the assisted living facility down the street had broken out again, but no, there was a tornado warning. I was frightened. I walked out of my bedroom and found my parents still tucked away in their beds without a care in the world. This was when I realized I’m definitely a Californian now. I turned the television on in my bedroom, and the weather person gave the exact location of where the tornado was potentially going to be and at what time. I messaged my friend, L, on Facebook to make sure she was okay. It was heading right by her house. She seemed concerned, but not overly so. We both noticed that there was a town called Fluffy Landing on the news. Almost simultaneously, she mentioned that she had just googled it.

Friday, March 25th
There is a man who walks down the street every morning with a cup of coffee, and he seems so zen. He inspires me. According to my mother, he has a disorder where he can’t sit still for long periods. There are days when I wish I had a disease like that so I could be skinnier, even though I know the grass is not always greener on the other side.
Tuesday, March 29th.
If you wear Under Armour closes as outerwear, should it be called Outer Armour?
Wednesday, March 30th.
When you eat a meal, do you ever think it’s your last, and the meal doesn’t live up to your expectations? Last night, for example, we had packaged salad and chicken breast. It was wonderful, but is that really how I want my sendoff to be?
Thursday, March 31st.
There was a tornado warning on my dad’s phone, but there wasn’t one on mine. It’s like AT&T is staging their own Hunger Games.
